RCCB VS ELCB

There is no much difference between RCCB and ELCB, only there is one major difference is its working principle.

Function of both RCCB and ELCB is same it give protection against earth leakage current.

here in this article we discuss about difference between RCCB and ELCB.

👉 RCCB :

What is the difference between ELCB and RCCB / RCD ? | RCCB VS ELCB

This device is used for making and breaking a circuit and for breaking a circuit automatically when the vector sum of current in phase and neutral or all conductors differs from zero by a predetermined amount. Both the neutral and phase currents are different that means some part of total current is flowing through the Earth.

Current operated ELCBs are much more reliable in operation, easier to install and maintain.

👉 ELCB :

working principle of ELCB

This device is used for making and breaking a circuit. It automatically trips or breaks the circuit when the potential difference between the protected metal work of the installation and earth exceeds 24V.

This voltage signal will cause the relay to operate.

👉 What is the difference between ELCB and RCCB / RCD ?

➣ELCB was use 10 years ago now it replaced by RCCB.

➣ELCB is the old name, it is  voltage operated devices that are no longer available.

➣RCCB or RCD is the new name, it is current operated devices.

➣The new RCCB is best because it will detect any earth fault and it operate even when main earth wire is disconnected.

➣The voltage type ( ELCB ) only detects earth faults that flow through the main earth wire and it fails to operate when earth wire is disconnected so this is why they stopped being used.

➣This means that an RCCB will continue to give shock protection in equipment that has a faulty earth. It is these properties that have made the RCD more popular.

➣ELCB measured the voltage on the earth conductor; if this voltage was not zero this indicated a current leakage to earth. The problem is that ELCBs need a sound earth connection, as does the equipment it protects. As a result, the use of ELCBs is no longer recommended.

➣RCCB is used for making and breaking a circuit and for breaking a circuit automatically when the vector sum of current in phase and neutral or all conductors differs from zero by a predetermined amount. Both the neutral and phase currents are different that means some part of total current is flowing through the Earth.

➣RCCB will only have the line and neutral connections.

➣ELCB will have Line, Neutral and Earth connection.

These are the major difference between RCCB and ELCB , hope you guys like it please give your value able suggestion.
